British Women Artists (BWA) was established in 2008 by Jowonder
, with the technical expertise of Peter Blue
, as a showcase for women artists of any nationality living and working in the UK.
We are here as a form of poetic resistance, using pictures to reassemble, and to challenge, we are open to artists of any nationality working in the UK to hijack: what is defined as British, the wealthy gatekeepers to the art world, and to help great artists who may have for some reason been overlooked.
Our competition has had input from many leading figures in the international world of fine-art including: Sadie Hennessy, Aretha Campbel, Jan Woolf, Hermione Wiltshire, Ceri Hand, Mary Allen, Mila Askarova, Jane McAdam Freud, Edward Lucie Smith, Liz Aggiss, Alice Herrick and Amanda Rigler.
