This site-specific research project made in collaboration with performer Jodie Allinson, is one of a number of outputs produced as part of ‘In and Between’ a creative-critical research group, based at Glamorgan University. The group consisted of poets, critical theorists, and filmmakers with an interest in investigating the nature of creative practice. The investigation which gave form to 'On Vocationtook place on Barry Beach, Wales, during June 2011. The aim of the research was to develop a methodology for collaborative practice which set up a dynamic between camera, performer and landscape as a starting point was a sensory exploration of the site. In using improvisation as a method of developing material for the screen we searched for ways of representing our respective and filmmaker’s imaginative and sensory responses to the site.
