Plug in Soap (2018)
This piece was inspired by Katrin Hanusch’s untitled. Aluminium sand cast. (2016) The piece was a patterned aluminium sculpture, with a USB cord sticking out of it. I got to speak to Hanusch about her work, and she told me how there was no point to the USB cord, and how people became curious about the significance of the cord.
So playing with this concept of rendering objects useless, I wanted to give an object a different purpose, while also still remaining useless. Perhaps the soap now automatically bubbles and foams when the USB cord is plugged in? Or maybe it's a self cleaning bar of soap? Or maybe it does nothing at all…
