A carving in limestone that has 3 strands of interest. It echoes the experience of swimming in rough tide in the bay and the vivid character of cliffs when seen from that position. It records perceived shapes, as compared to their physical reality. The straight-edged segment is how a section of cliff appears, when, in fact, this view is just one profile of a slow, variegated curve. The 2 curved segments in the centre are the shapes in my imagination that give the feel of being engulfed by a big wave, but the shapes formed by the water are different. The work is also a study of surface in 3D. The surfaces of the segments range from straight-edged planes through different curves, to the egg-shape, a single, continuous 3D surface, and an area of natural texture, where the stone broke of its own accord. The egg-shape was suggested by bushes on top of a cliff, that had weathered to the shape of the bottom half of an egg, upside down.
